The Guyanese have an expression, "Won won daughty build dam". In American English it would go like this, "One One brick builds a dam". One step at a time leads to a meter, a mile, a half marathon, a marathon, an ultra. Ok, so I'm definitely not there yet, but yesterday this motto kept me going through a 6 mile run in the June heat. Also much thanks to my sister, who wouldn't let me give up until I met my long run goal of 6. I was able to keep pace with her for the first time in a long time, which if you ever grew up with on overachieving sibling, you would understand my newfound pride (I love you Jehan!!).
We made stops at the park drinking fountain, hoping a slobbering kid with meningitis didn't just take a swig before us. We made very quick waves to our nearby golfing husbands. I pleaded to my sister to tell me stories to distract me from my overwhelming urge to stop in my tracks. And we made it!! I haven't sweat so much since Guyana.
We quickly gathered our husbands and feasted at Macau Cafe. According to these China girls' palates, we had the best Chinese food around.
Happy running!!
Thanks Jaide, for sharing your blog address. I am definitely a fellow blogger (Paris blog) but not a runner! But I am feeling very guilty and left out for not joining my family and friends of runners! I much prefer Zumba but I don't have to face any "Beast" doing it! As you know, Michael is signed up (thanks to your invite) for the "Blood, Sweat & Beer Run" and I'm very proud of the progress he's making while training for it! I run with him when we go to the coast which is the only place I've felt instantly motivated to run. But after reading all your blogs, I realized that you all don't run because you necessarily love it all the time; it's more the feeling of satisfaction in overcoming challenges and achieving goals! So, maybe I will join you one day....I will encourage Michael to be a contributor, too.
